Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been out for almost a month now, and the developers aren’t exactly rushing out patches. So far, we’ve only seen one small hotfix that addressed a couple of critical issues. While the official modding tools are still on the way, the Nexus modding community is already in full swing, with over 800 user-created mods available. Some of them are absolute must-haves, while others cater to more specific tastes. In this article, we’re focusing on the most useful community tweaks—so don’t expect anything like “Infinite Saves,” “Weightless Items,” or “One-Hit Kills.” We’re here to enhance the game, not break it. Read what the best mods for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Absolute Must-Haves
Surprisingly, the first things I’d recommend are two cosmetic mods. In the base game, clothes get dirty way too fast—your character looks like they took a mud bath after a short walk, and a single hit in combat covers them head to toe in blood. The developers clearly went overboard trying to make things “realistic,” so let’s dial it back a bit. No more running to the bathhouse every five minutes just to avoid looking like a total mess.
• Stay Clean for Longer – Get the x10 version, and your clothes will stay clean all day. Simple and effective.
• Less Bloody Blood + Less Bloody Butchering Blood – This mod tones down the blood splatter. Now, after a fight, you won’t look like you just survived a horror movie. A couple of red stains from three fallen enemies? Sure. But full-on blood-soaked armor? Only after major battles.
Next up, let’s fix a frustrating issue that even Daniel Vávra himself admitted: merchants have way too little money. The A Little Richer Merchants mod doubles their wealth, making trading much less annoying while keeping things balanced.
Oh, and if you’re also tired of that awful rain effect that covers your screen in blurry streaks, grab Rain Fix to get rid of it once and for all.
A Touch of Hardcore (If You Dare)
Compared to the original, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been made easier in almost every way—earning money is simpler, combat is more forgiving, and leveling up happens faster. Some would say too fast, and many players seem to agree. While difficulty-enhancing mods aren’t as popular as outright cheat mods, they do exist—and they’re worth checking out.
Fixing the Money Overflow
Finding yourself rolling in cash too easily? Tougher Economy is a quick fix—it cuts the selling price of items in half, making it harder to get rich overnight. Not the most elegant solution, but it does the job. And since we’re not getting any official patches to rebalance the economy, this is your best bet.
Slowing Down Leveling
The game’s leveling system caters to players who rush through the main story. If you take your time with side quests, you’ll likely enter the second region already overpowered, making the rest of the game a breeze. If you haven’t started your playthrough yet (or want to replay the game with more of a challenge), install Less XP x0.75—this slows experience gain by 25%, ensuring progression feels meaningful all the way to the final act.
Making Combat Tougher
Combat is arguably the game’s biggest weak spot—though some still find it challenging. The reality? Enemies are too passive, rarely attack or change stances, and the game hands you weapons so powerful that you can one-shot heavily armored knights with a standard longsword. Even the lead developer has acknowledged this issue. Until an official fix arrives, there are two solid mod options.
These are only recommended if you’ve mastered the combat system and want a real challenge.
Pick one:
• Weapon Balance Overhaul – Completely reworks weapon damage, balancing it along a smooth logarithmic curve to prevent sudden difficulty spikes. The most powerful swords deal half as much damage, eliminating one-shot kills. Just like in the first game, you’ll need to wear down an enemy’s stamina or break their armor before taking them down. However, enemy AI remains unchanged.
• Better Combat – Tweaks enemy behavior, making them much more aggressive. They attack more often, dodge, block efficiently, and frequently switch stances. This makes master strikes harder to pull off. Optional settings allow you to tighten reaction windows for master strikes and perfect blocks, and you can even reduce overall weapon damage by 40% (in which case, you won’t need the previous mod).
Reputation System Rework
Want even more realism? Try KCDII Reputation Rebalance – A Quarter Harder, which overhauls the reputation system. Crimes now carry harsher penalties, regaining reputation is slower, and losing it happens much faster. Because, as they say, you can build a thousand bridges—but burn one, and you’ll still be remembered as Glen Schofield.
Quality of Life, Visual Upgrades, and Other Nice Touches
Looking to smooth out the little annoyances and enhance the visuals? These mods improve the overall experience without altering the core gameplay.
• Fast Launch – Skips all intro logos and takes you straight to the main menu. No waiting.
• Luck Laid Bare – Dice Unveiled – Reveals the actual probabilities of dice rolls instead of leaving you guessing.
• Smooth Cutscenes at 60 FPS – Removes the 30 FPS cap from in-game cutscenes for a much smoother experience.
• Ultimate Clothing and Armor Overhaul Balanced – Upgrades clothing and armor textures to crisp 2K and 4K resolutions.
Lighting & Visual Fixes
• Enhanced Global Illumination – Improves the game’s lighting system, eliminating unnaturally dark spots and making light spread more evenly across surfaces.
• Vertical Light Fix – No more magically lighting candles when you walk up a staircase. Now, they stay lit properly from a distance.
• Insta Place and Pickup Book for Alchemy – Removes the three-second animation of placing and picking up the alchemy book when using the alchemy table.
• Hood On – Adds new hooded variants of certain thief-friendly cloaks. They come pre-worn over the head and can be bought from the tailor in Troskovice. Their stats remain identical to the regular versions.
• Enhanced Particles and Blood – Keeps blood splatter and particle effects on surfaces for 15 minutes, letting you fully admire the aftermath of your latest battle.
Of course, these mods won’t replace official patches or a proper hardcore mode from the developers—but Warhorse hasn’t released anything like that yet. In the meantime, this small selection already fixes some issues and enhances certain aspects of the game.
If you’re looking to make the game easier instead, just head over to Nexus and find what suits you best.
